For the first time the National Tourism Year 2008 will be launched in the Mekong delta city of Can Tho on February 21. With careful preparation, the city is now ready to welcome visitors from near and far to enjoy local specialties and visits to famous sites.


Can Tho is not only a key artery junction and a socio-economic and cultural center of the Mekong River Delta, but also is considered the capital of crisscrossed canals and rivers in the western region.

Playing host to the event, the theme song nuoc Miet VUONO CUU Long (Mekong River Gardens), the city is preparing for the opening ceremony to be held in the Hau River Park in the district of Ninh Kieu. Under the project, a small island in the form of stage, which can accommodate more than 6,000 people, was erected in front of the Hau river. From the main stage, visitors can see big boats carrying passengers across the river to the left and engineers working on the bridge of Can Tho, right.

More than 1,600 amateur and professional artists have the technical training for a special program at the inauguration. Ngo Dang Cuong, director of the action choreographer, said that "the artists have completed more than 80 percent of the workload and look forward to the event in the coming days."
